The Fresh Air Fund is an independent, not-for-profit agency, which has provided free summer vacations to more than 1.7 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877. More than 9,000 New York City children enjoy free Fresh Air Fund programs annually, and I recently had a chance to photograph one of the lucky ones.
For the 2nd summer, Ivy Zhu travelled from Brooklyn to spend a week with the Carlston family in Southampton. When I stopped by to photograph, Ivy seemed right at home with her host sisters, Ada and Alva, as well as her host dad (Mats) and host mom (Lydia).
The girls played on the beach, took turns on the tire swing, and happened upon a horseshoe crab in the sand.
